Coastal Grove Lounge is a CMF and environmental design concept for John Wayne Airport. Inspired by Orange County’s coastline, citrus groves, and sunset light, the project explores how color, material, finish, and spatial atmosphere can create a warmer and calmer airport lounge experience.

Airports are designed for movement, but travelers also need moments of pause. Coastal Grove Lounge responds to the lack of calm, comfortable waiting spaces by using color, material, finish, and local inspiration to create a more relaxing airport lounge experience.
The process began with visual research into airport lounges, Orange County landscapes, hospitality interiors, and material finishes. Through moodboards, furniture studies, color palettes, and CMF boards, Coastal Grove Lounge evolved into a warm and regionally inspired airport environment.
The final lounge concept creates a softer airport experience through warm wood, muted coastal colors, natural textures, and sunset-inspired lighting. The space is designed as a place where travelers can pause, recharge, and experience a sense of local atmosphere before continuing their journey.

This project strengthened my understanding of CMF as a storytelling tool. Rather than treating color and material as decorative choices, I used them to communicate place, mood, comfort, and brand experience within a physical environment.
